How to shop smart and eat well on a budget.

The Mission (if you choose to accept it):

On your next grocery run, budget $10 max for each of the ten categories below. Do not browse the aisles, stay on the outer edges of the store, hit the meat, dairy, produce section, grab some grains, and then, get the heck out of the store! By avoiding instant meals in a box and sugary treats, you can save money, eat well, and enjoy a balanced diet.

1. Oatmeal
2. Pasta
3. Rice
4. Bread
5. Eggs
6. Vegetables
7. Fruits
8. Meat
9. Fish
10. Spices/Condiments

Full Disclosure:

Learning to cook from scratch is the easiest way to save money when grocery shopping. Canned and boxed foods have too many additives, not enough nutritional value, too much salt, and don’t yield enough servings to create leftovers. So, while your cash expenditures will decrease, your time investment will have to tick up slightly, at least until you get the hang of things.
